Change is the only constant thing in life whether we like it or not we have to flow with it. In my endeavour to follow a sustainable lifestyle, I have made multiple lifestyle changes. Any kind of change takes time to accept and make into a routine. However, if you believe and have a positive outlook towards it, the process becomes easier.
You can read my post on 5 Simple Lifestyle changes which are environmental-friendly.
I have been trying multiple products to follow this lifestyle – some products worked, some failed. I thought to start a blog series wherein I can share products that I have used for a longer period and have worked well to help my readers too.
In my first edition to this series, I present to you – “5 Ultimate Sustainable Products That Actually Work.”
Utensil Scrubber:
We all need utensil cleaners daily, a product required by every household. Traditionally, our elders used coconut coir scrubbers to wash utensils however, there has been an evolution of products to suit our needs. These newer products made cleaning much easier however they aren’t a sustainable option. With a lot of people trying to follow a sustainable lifestyle, many companies have reinvented the coconut coir scrubber to give it the look and feel of your current scrubbers

My Experience:
This product works well for your copper and brass utensils like magic. If you use it regularly then the threads come out and it may even get stuck on the product or in the sink but it’s easily removable. One scrubber lasts well for around 1 month, it also depends on your usage. If you use steel utensils or ceramic then it hasn’t worked so well for me. I am still figuring out ways to find an eco-friendly product for these kinds. Many brands are available in the market however, the ones from Indibam and Better Home have worked great for me.
Floor Cleaners:
Floor Cleaners are again something which we need daily. If we chose a sustainable option for such products I am sure it will have a positive result going forward. There is a variety of products to choose from that are eco-friendly. The question in our mind is whether they work on a long term basis or not. I have been using eco-friendly floor cleaners for more than 2 years now.

My Experience:
I have tried a few brands – Better Home, Turil, PureCult, Nimyle and Puer. These products work as good chemical ones. They don’t have strong fragrances, are safe to use for your little ones & pets and clean wonderfully. There is no residue on the floor and regular usage has caused no harm to date. Products that worked for me are Better Home, PureCult and Puer.
Toilet Cleaners:
Maintaining good hygiene requires keeping your toilets clean and disinfected. Commonly the toilet cleaners available have a lot of chemicals and sometimes cause skin irritations too. However, the eco-friendly options are non-toxic and safe to use giving the same results as the chemical ones.

My Experience:
Better Home and PureCult are the two brands that I have tried, both work well. These products clean well and are effective. They are eco-friendly and non-toxic. The only thing is the fragrance is very mild, if you are looking for a variety of fragrances available in the chemical products these brands have just one product to offer. It’s time to weigh the pros and cons and make the right decision.
Corn Starch Disposable Garbage Bags:
Online or offline you would see the option of Corn Starch disposable garbage bags. They claim it to be 100% biodegradable garbage bags. These bags are made from corn starch plastic or corn starch polymers which is an alternative to your petroleum-based plastics. Since it has plant-based ingredients it’s biodegradable, unlike plastics.

My Experience:
I have used these corn starch garbage bags again for more than 2 years. You can use it for both wet and dry wastes and comes in different sizes to meet your requirements. There are various brands which are available in the market, I buy from Big Basket home brand. Unlike plastic bags, these are expensive so that could be a concern. That’s the only drawback I feel however, my experience has been good.
Bamboo based Kitchen Roll:
Many of us use kitchen roll, I am no different. The one I used was paper-based which worked very well. A few months back, I came across the concept of Bamboo based kitchen roll. As Bamboo grows quickly, it’s becoming a favourite choice for many eco-friendly products. So I brought one to give it a try.

My Experience:
I tried the product from the brand called Beco. they have come up with multiple products, I tried their kitchen roll. The kitchen roll is thicker than your normal ones, it can be used for cleaning purposes. Guess what, the great part is that it’s washable so you can use it for longer periods. I have even washed the piece of roll in my washing machine, it came out clean to be reused again. Yes, that’s how hard I have tested the product. Looking forward to trying more products from this brand.
I hope these mini reviews are helpful. Incase, you are looking for a detailed review for a particular product, do let me know.

These are some really amazing and eco-friendly products. The best part is that they are all products that are commonnly used in our houses, and using them could be one big step towards more eco-friendly and sustainable products. The coir scrubber is something that seems really useful.
A very good list of the eco products. At home, my mom has always used that utensil cleaner and I hope we can switch to the other products too as it is so important to go towards the sustainability.
