Holi is the most colourful festival which most of us look forward to celebrating with fervour. Firstly,

Wishing You and all your Dear Ones a Very Happy & Colorful Holi.. May this festival of Colours bring in all shades of Happiness, Good Health and Love in your life.

What is the Significance of Holi

Holi is a spring festival predominantly celebrated in the Indian sub-continent and it also marks the victory of good over evil. Its starts with “Holika Dahan” on the Full Moon Night of Phalgun month as per Hindu Calender. The next day you enjoy “Rangwali Holi/Rang Panchami” with your friends and family playing with colours and water.

All our festivals have Mythological significance which always makes it interesting. The legend of father and son – Hiranyakshyap and Prahlad is the key one. Hiranyakshyap was a demon who proclaimed himself to be God and whoever violated against his wishes was punished. His own son stood up to him and so the duel between the father-son started. During one of the tasks, Hiranyakshyap asks Holika his sister who had the boon to remain unharmed from fire to take Prahlad on her lap so he could get rid of his son. However, Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishnu and instead of him getting hurt it was Holika who paid the price for her deeds. As a mark of respect, we do “Holika Dehan” marking the victory over evil.

The other popular legend is of Lord Krishna how he enjoyed playing Holi with Radha and Gopis. People across the world come to watch Lathmar Holi or Barsane Ki Holi. Mathura, Vrindavan, Gowardhan, Gokul, Nandagaon and Barsana sport different ado during this period.

Let cleanse our evils in the holy fire this Holi and emerge victoriously.
