#AntalyaDiaries – Kaleici: Old City Antalya

Hope you are enjoying my Antalya Chronicles 🙂

There is so much to explore in any city you visit and so much to learn in terms of history that one visit can never be enough. Still, 2.5-day stay at this beautiful landscape surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea left an impact on me.

I felt far away from the chaos of a city life surrounded by peace and calmness. Good company of friends, the prospect of knowing a new place, empty wide roads, eye-capturing scenery –  I don’t think I needed anything more!

Post Duden Waterfall, our next tourist destination was Kaleici or the Old City Antalya. On one hand, you have the port while on the other hand its a shopper’s paradise. The place has lovely Ottoman houses which give a Romanian feel.

King Attalos II founded the city with a port and after him the

city was named Attaleia now Antalya.

The lanes are narrow you can travel on foot at leisure through the lively streets and check out traditional Turkish artefacts. There are two markets here one which is a fixed priced one and the second set of shops across the inner bylanes where bargaining is the key.

The Mosque and starting point of our walk

You have a lot of historic ruins and mosque to see which have become synonymous with Antalya like the Hadrian’s Gate, Clock Tower, Fluted Minaret to name a few which have been so well maintained.

                         Traditional Artefacts on the way

Again due to time restriction we chose to explore the bylanes of the place to get a feel for the place rather than spend our time in fixed priced shops.

I take this opportunity to introduce one of my #CrossBorderSisters – Priyanka –  A doctor by day and a writer by night. She enjoys writing poetry and fiction and has a novel to her credit. She is currently working on her second novel, which she is hoping will see the light of day before the world ends. Blogging, however, remains her first (although slightly neglected) love!

  4. Lovely pictures, Manisha. I agree there’s a lot to explore in a city. It was great seeing Antalya through your eyes and lens. #OpenNTalk #BloggerBabes

  5. The video said it all, making me want to visit the laid back by lanes of the old city.
    Interesting place, Manisha!

  6. I think it’s lovely that they have such a systematic breakdown… One fixed price market and one for bargaining
