#AntalyaDiaries – Duden Waterfall

Advertisements

I hope you enjoyed a brief introduction to this place – Antalya  – A Turkish Attraction!

Since we reached the hotel in the evening on the first day, we refreshed ourselves and just enjoyed the ambience at the resort. The next day our first tourist destination was Duden Waterfall.

Enroute to the destination we saw various institutions, residential areas, malls and orchards. November is the time for oranges and pomegranates so you could actually see them throughout the way and you get fresh juice in many places.

Antalya is surrounded by water bodies around Turkey there is the Mediterranean Sea, between Istanbul and Greece is the Aegean Sea and in North, there is the Black Sea. The water at Duden Waterfalls goes into the Mediterranean Sea. The spectacular view of the falls and peaceful sea make a divine sight.

Duden Park

With a small entry fee, you enter Duden Park which is nice green botanical garden with benches and open tables, a popular picnic spot for the locals and the perfect place to unwind by just sitting back or cycling or walking. This is where the falls are situated.

Walking through Duden Park towards the Waterfalls

‘Duden’ means a hole that swallows water sources. The two sources of the falls are Kirkgozler and Pinarbasi converging to form Biyikli pothole and disappear in it. Some of these potholes are big enough to swallow a whole river or lake. The water in the falls is recycled and flows into the Mediterranean Sea. The falls is 19 km above sea level while 20 – 22 km underground as well. The waterfall has two parts Upper & Lower.

A closer view of the falls

We had 30 mins at the spot however, we did get a glimpse of the falls under the clouds and in the sun both look picturesque. Due to lesser time, we could not explore the place more and head through the stairways downwards.

The view of the Mediterranean Sea was very calming.

Walked through the gardens for 10 mins and back to go to the next destination!
