Nashik, the ancient holy city of Maharashtra situated on the banks of Godavari is the 4th largest city of Maharashtra and the “Wine Capital of India,” with India’s half vineyards and wineries situated here. This city also has historical and mythological significance. Lord Rama, Sita Ma and Lakshmana stayed at Panchvati a place near Nashik during their exile period of 14 yrs. Once in every 12 years, Kumbh Mela is held here along with 4 other cities in India. Some noted freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar and Anant Laxman Kanhere were born here.
With a combination of spots of pilgrimage importance, this city harbors many forts, waterfalls, hill sights and of course some famous vineyards. Let me share a few places which you should not miss while visiting this city.
Sula Vineyards
Rajeev Samant established Sula Vineyards in the year 1999, and created the first stepping stone for the city to adorn the title of ‘Wine Capital of India.” Sula is India’s leading wine company and has created a name for Indian Wine across the Global Map.
You can enjoy and learn about the wine process, taste some choicest wines from their collection during the wine tasting session and buy yourself some lovely souvenirs for your trip back. Their Wine glasses are of the greatest quality and their Grapeseed oil is one of the best I have used. They have some great food places in-house a perfect combination which one looks at from a place.
Vallonne Vineyards is another vineyard which could be visited.

Trimbakeshwar
The origin of the Godavari river is near Trimbak. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. This temple situated in the pious place of Trimbak which finds its mention in the powerful Mrityunjaya Mantra which is beneficial for mental, emotional and physical well-being and that bestows immortality and longevity.
Kusavarta, a kunda or sacred pond in the temple is the source of Godavari River. Built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao (Nanasaheb) the appealing black stone structure is located within three hills Brahmagiri, Nilagiri and Kalagiri and harbors 3 Lingams representing the Tridev – Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma.
On the way to Trimbakeshwar, you could also visit Anjaneri Hills, a picturesque location believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, the mountain range is named after the mother of Lord Hanuman, Anjani Mata. It’s approximately 20 km from Nashik.

Shirdi
Shirdi or Sainagar is the abode of Lord Sainath. Visited by lakhs of devotees every year it’s one of the richest temple organizations of India.
This place is the Karma Bhoomi of Lord Sainath, it has many temples around the Samadhi Temple. Dwarka Mai, Museum where various belongings of Shri Sainath are kept, Dhuni there are many landmark places which make you feel the presence of the Almighty. There is something special about religious places even the air present gives you mental peace.
You should totally try the fruits here, somehow every fruit I buy from this place is always sweet, I guess the blessings of Baba is always there in some form for his children.

Saptashrungi
Saptashrungi, another pilgrimage site is 60 km away from Nashik. Amongst the 51 Shakti Peethas, Goddess Saptashrungi Nivasini resides within the seven mountain peaks (Sapta means seven while, Shrung means peak). Its located in Naduri, Kalwan taluka a small village near Nashik. These stunning hills have 108 water bodies called kundas which add to the beauty of this place.
The hills have a lot of medicinal plants growing here, so it is said when Lord Lakshman was unconscious during the war with Ravana Lord Hanuman flew to these hills to search the herb.

Dudhsagar falls have a spectacular view during the monsoon season, a must watch! Pandavleni Caves are rock-cut caves and have existed for more than 2000 yrs., they date back to the 3rd century BC. It’s a group of 24 caves depicting Hinayana Buddhism. Panchvati a pious land attracts a lot of pilgrims. As per Ramayana, during the exile period Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana and Sita Mata resided here for a certain period. Kalaram Temple which temple near Panchvati derives its name from the black statue of Lord Rama. Sita Gufa near Panchvati is said to be the place from where Sita Mata was kidnapped by Ravana.

Nashik is a lovely and I feel underrated place. There are so many places in and around Nashik that are really iconic. Shirdi of course is our favourite and we head there at least once in a year.

Except for Shirdi, I have not been to any of these places. I do have Nashik on my list but never had the chance to get there. I would definitely love to visit the Sula Vineyard when I am in Nashik next.
