Characters to watch out for in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana…

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is the common phrase we hear these days as the wedding season is on! So, I thought why not talk about the movie of the same name, directed by Ratnaa Sinha. The movie features Rajkummar Rao as an IAS Officer and Kriti Kharbanda as a PCS Officer.

Released in 2017, I recently got a chance to watch Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana on ZEE5 and was totally in love with the movie. While there are many factors like the performances, direction, songs that I could go on about, it is the true to life storyline and authentic characterizations that really caught my eye. That’s why I shall be sharing my views on some of the incredible characters from Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana in this article.

To refresh your memories, here is the plot of the movie in brief. In India, arranged marriage is still not an alienated concept yet and that’s how Aarti Shukla (Kriti Kharbanda) meets Satyendra Mishra (Rajkummar Rao). Aarti is not against the marriage but wants a person who would let her work while Satyendra a traditional guy wants to keep his parents happy. With no object from either side, the alliance is fixed. But due to some misunderstandings, Aarti runs away from her house on the wedding day and pursues her dream to join the government services. But what happens when she crosses path with Satyendra in future forms the crux of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana.

Now that you are clear about the plot, here are some of the amazing characters that you shall come across in this fantastic movie.

  • Satyendra Mishra

I feel this movie features one of the best performances by Rajkummar Rao. He simply steals the show with his complex portrayal of a simple guy who gets bitter due to his past. Be it the clerk in the Excise Department who can’t even speak proper English to an IAS officer you stands out in his department, the transformation of his character has a great graph that is both real and engaging.

  • Aarti Shukla

Aarti, played by Kriti Kharbanda is the central focus of the story as she is the trigger for the main conflict. A simple girl who wants to work and is not prepared for marriage, Aarti wrestles with many mixed emotions throughout the movie. The character desires to be independent yet is indecisive in many respects. This only makes Aarti a complex character to watch but also makes her quite relatable.

  • Shanti Mishra

Alka Amin aka Satyendra’s mother echoes the voice of a mother from a small town who asks for dowry so she can pay the same for her daughter. Quite a dominating character, Shanti Mishra holds the reigns of the house. Thought her role in the movie is quite brief, Alka Amin makes sure that Shanti balances out the good and bad shades of her character with a realistic appeal.

  • Mahesh Mama

Vipin Sharma plays Satyendra’s maternal uncle and his sister’s strongest supporter. He exhibits the persona of people in India who ask for dowry and have no qualms about it. I don’t know why but the character totally got my wrath when watching the movie. Getting such a strong reaction from an audience is a testament to the incredible characterization of Mahesh Mama’s character.

  • Abha

Played by Nayani Dixit, Abha is Aarti’s sister in the movie. Abha is a housewife who is confined to her the four walls of her house and doesn’t want her sister to suffer the same way. In the pivotal scenes, Abha’s character makes a great impact with her tough advice and also plays a major role in the twist of the movie. We have all had mentors in our lives and Abha makes remember those people during the movie.

So, those were my views on the fantastic characters that feature in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. Let me know which were your favourite characters from the movie? In case, you are yet to watch it, I would highly recommend you do so right away as this is a movie that shouldn’t be missed.
