When In Malaysia – 5 Things To Do

Malaysia one of the South East Asia countries is a popular tourist destination among Indians. I had a chance to visit this place too, it was again a short trip but fun. Most of us plan short getaways to any place so I thought let me share 5 must-dos when you visit the country.

Before I begin with my experiences let me share a few important things about this place.

  • The country has a multi-ethnic makeup with respect to its population, there are a lot of Indians settled there mostly from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Muslims and Malaysia people obviously and few other ethnicities as well.
  • We had been during the month of Ramadhan which is a celebrated festival there and our hotel had arrangements for the morning breakfast accordingly.
  • Malaysian ringgit is the currency of the country,
  • We had been to Kuala Lumpur during October month when there was a rainy climate. Since the country is located near the equator the climate throughout the year is hot and humid. One surprising experience was that the rains were also timed perfectly, it rained at sharp 4 pm and stopped by 7.30 – 8 pm I am sure it was just a coincidence but it helped us when we were touring.
  • Being a vegetarian we did face initial hitches in finding a good place to eat but thankfully we located a Punjabi Dhaba (ya… you read it right) at walking distance from our hotel which made life easy for us.

Without further ado let me begin with 5 Must-dos.

  • ✈ City Tour:

When we had been there the hotel we stayed in had the option of arranging for a half day city tour.

There was a show for all the tourists organised by the government at the beginning of this tour. Next was the Petronas Twin Towers: World’s tallest twin towers, and one must visit this place. You can’t miss the magnificent view of the city skyline from the 86th floor and the sky bridge on the 41st floor.

You can also check the Kuala Lumpur Tower which is a communications tower featuring an antenna that increases its height to 421 metres. The tower also used to see the crescent moon which marks the beginning of Ramadhan so it acts as Islamic Falak Observatory.

We also went to the National Museum which gives you a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the place.

They took us to some shopping venues which had some traditional silk products, handicrafts and stone jewellery.

  • ✈ Genting Highlands, Pahang

This place truly deserved at least a day if not two. Located at Ulu Kali Mountain it’s a one-stop haven for hotels, a theme park with many entertainment and retail options. Approximately 1 hour away from Kuala Lumpur the ride to the top through skyway cable car is awesome. The theme park will make you feel, wish the time could stop and you could just keep on enjoying. You could opt for a one night stay to explore more.

  • ✈ Cameron Highlands, Pahang

Roughly around 200 km from Kuala Lumpur this place is located in Pahang. This tableland is one of the oldest tourist places in Malaysia and a must-visit to enjoy the amazing climate and natural habitat. The picturesque view of the tea plantations makes it worth your time, pick your strawberries and relax with a walk in the Mossy Forest.  You can opt for the best hotels in Cameron Highlands if you plan to stay there.

  • ✈ Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah

Langkawi is an archipelago made up of 99 islands on the western coast of Malaysia. This is again a place for nature lovers and deserves at least an overnight stay. The Langkawi bridge, Eagle Square, Underwater World, Gunung Raya are few of the places to visit here.

  • ✈ Shopping

Yes, any trip is incomplete without this. Although the Malaysian currency is on a higher side there are a lot of things worth your spend. Clothes we did not think was worth a buy in case you are looking for electronics, you must explore them here. Local handicrafts and accessories like shoes, bags, cosmetics you get of high quality at good prices. The malls have a lot of deals for the customers which makes it more lucrative.

I hope this proves helpful whenever you plan your visit!!
