Our last day at Udaipur was enduring. Just 2 days at Udaipur have created such a lasting impression that I can’t get over it and makes me want to explore more of Rajasthan. I feel its vibrant and colourful. I really appreciate Rajasthan Tourism which has done a lot for its tourists.
Getting back, we started our day withย Shrinathji Temple since it was Janamashtmi. We got ready for the first-morning darshan at 5.30 am. It’s around 45 mins to 1 hour from Udaipur. There is another Lord Shiva temple which we missed because we got late. In case, you have more time in hand please do visit it.
Our next destination for the day was Sajjan Garh Palace (Monsoon Palace). Situated on the Aravalli Hills this place gives a comprehensive look of Udaipur. It’s worth a sight.
The palace is not well maintained in comparison to The City Palace Museum. You won’t find any guides to share more details. You can’t enter the main palace because of itsย debilitating condition. It has more than three floors. One of the dignitaries got the fencing done en-route to the palace for their family wedding which has proved a blessing for the vehicles.
Next in line was Shilpgram – The Craft Village or The Artisan’s Village.
I strongly recommend this place for art lovers and who like to know more about different tribal communities. You would get a ganderย of their lifestyle.
We had a wonderful guide who gave us a lot of information about how the tribal community themselves come and built a replica of their houses which reflects their way of living with the same material to give realistic feel.
Artisans across the country come and stay here for few days. You would find artists who make miniature paintings, pottery, clothes, crystal work and many more. You could shop these products at reasonable rates from them. It was great meeting some of the artists and salute them for their work.
A lot of cultural events happen here.
The trip to Udaipur is incomplete without the boat ride at Lake Pichola. We could not visit all the surrounding places due to paucity of time.
You could explore the local markets for Bandhej and Lehriya patterns for clothes. Lac bangles if you like and silver articles and jewellery.

Shipgram is one of my favorite places in India. I had visited once during college for a workshop and then again for a second time when we went on a holiday. I’m glad you had fun on your trip.

I love Udaipur too and reading your blog brought back memories of my 2 trips there. Though I missed out on both the Sajjagarh and Shilpahram, the other places I visited were worth the effort and time spent! Loved the food in Udaipur too!!

I used visit Udaipur a lot as a weekend destination for relaxing with friends when I used to stay at Ahmedabad- my hometown. I have some wonderful memories visiting udaipur. Your post made me nostalgic .
Ya its very close by from there. We also went there for a weekend only but 2 days were memorable.
