Blog 176 - Navratri - 2

On bidding adieu to my Gannu Bappa, I eagerly look forward to celebrating Navratri. Being from the North I have followed this festival since I was a child and used to fast with my mother. We celebrate it twice a year with the former one called as Chaitra Navratri ending in Ram Navami and the upcoming Shardiya Navratri which ends in Dussehra / Vijayadashami / Dasera.

Shardiya Navratri is celebrated with a lot of zest across different states with Raas Garba popular in Gujarat, Durga Puja in Kolkata and Ram Leela in North. We also have the Kanya Puja / Kanjak Puja celebrated on the 8th day (Ashtami) or 9th day (Navami).

It’s a time to celebrate as well as mediate. We do Ghatasthapana on the first day some people fast all 9 days while some 2 days.

These nine days have a deeper meaning, it’s a time to introspect. It’s a time to awaken and connect with our soul.

This Navratri I have a promise to myself that I will keep up to these nine virtues.

Self-discipline –

I will focus on the positive aspect of life. We all have our daily struggles from which we can’t run away but train ourselves to be calm and not to stress much so we can see things clearly and achieve our goals.

Respect –

Along with respecting my elders, friends, family members, I will also respect myself. Once you appreciate yourself you would start liking the world outside in true sense. Empty plates can’t fill your stomach likewise when don’t appreciate yourself everything else becomes undesirable.

Love –

The more love you give, it comes back to you in many forms. I truly believe in this. In today’s time, it’s difficult to love without expectations, however, do your bit and just forget the remaining to nature. What we give comes back multi-fold at the right time. Just trust God!

Negativity –

Show close doors to the negativity around. Look at the brighter and positive side of life. We all have seen and faced it, we are human beings. It’s difficult at times to get up and walk. I am no saint, but I can try to get myself away as much as possible from it. At the end of it, if I follow loss would be mine. I can try and train my mind to my best.

Sincerity –

I always tried to do things with sincerity and would continue with the same practice to the best of my abilities. I would not only practice sincerity towards myself and family but my surroundings and nature. I am trying to continuously evolve myself and work towards caring for nature in better ways. I would continue my endeavours be it as small as reducing plastic material. Small steps lead to great destinations.

Responsibility –

As a human being, I have responsibilities towards myself followed by my family and friends. I would try to focus to build a better me and develop myself. I would fulfil my duties with best of abilities.

Gain Knowledge –

There is no age limit till when you can learn or gain knowledge. Life is the biggest teacher who never ceases its classes. I would open my ears to the silent signals of life. I will not shy away from different means which help me to grow and learn.

Celebrate Small Milestones –

I always believe in celebrating small and big landmarks in any way. Maybe just pray to God and light a Diya or bring a pastry and enjoy. Celebrating small joys of life shows us how grateful and kind life has been to us. In times of when you don’t have the strength to fight back, look at those moments to stand up and fight back.

Stay Connected –

I can achieve everything but without my loved ones, it all becomes insignificant. I try to stay connected with my family and friends whenever possible and hope I improve on it in a better way. When you smile with everyone it increases and when you can cry with them the pain reduces! It’s true in all senses.

Rejoice this festival. Do your best and leave the rest. Share your pictures and tag me in.

  2. This is a lovely take on the 9 days of Navratri. It takes a lot of courage to remove negativity from your life. I think after suffering the brunt of it, finally becoming a mother helped me value what is important in life and what needs to be disregarded or removed from life. Including people sometimes. Thansk also for sharing about the colours.
